Servant Leader
Cody Vasut is an eighth-generation Texan and lifelong resident of Brazoria County, where he has devoted himself to serving his community. In 2016, he was elected to the Angleton City Council. In 2020, he was elected to serve western and southern Brazoria County in the Texas House of Representatives. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Business & Industry Committee and a member of the Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committees in the 88th Session. Cody is passionate about solving problems for his community: lowering property taxes, eliminating unfunded mandates, promoting economic development, and preserving what makes Brazoria County prosperous and free.

After graduating from Angleton High School, he graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 from Texas A&M University with a B.B.A. and M.S. in Management. In 2012, he graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian of his class from the University of Houston Law Center. For the next decade, he represented a variety of Fortune 500 companies at BakerHostetler, a leading national law firm before starting his own practice in Angleton.
Cody has extensive experience representing clients in complex commercial litigation, employment, theft of trade secrets, personal injury, and oil and gas litigation across Texas and the United States. He also regularly puts his legal skills to great use for his constituents, prosecuting and defending points of order on the floor of the Texas House, drafting and passing bills, and authoring amendments.

Successfully prosecuted and defended more than 200 points of order on the floor of the Texas House by oral argument, resulting in the defeat or passage of dozens of laws.
Drafted and passed more than a dozen Texas laws.
Represented an oil and gas exploration and production company in Texas as a member of the trial team in a negligence and trespass case against another operator. The jury found for the client and awarded more than $2 million in damages.
Successfully defended an oil and gas exploration and production company in Texas as lead associate in a three-week trial during which an injured oilfield service employee sought $18.6 million in damages for personal injuries when he was hit on the head. The jury found that the defendant was not negligent and a take-nothing judgment was entered against the plaintiff.
Represented oil and gas exploration and production company in Texas as lead associate in a product liability lawsuit against a casing and connections supplier. The jury found for the client and awarded $3 million in damages. The court further awarded more than $1 million in attorney’s fees on bench briefing. The verdict was upheld on appeal in a reported decision.
Represented a variety of energy companies in prosecuting and defending numerous theft of trade secret lawsuits in Texas involving current or former employees and competitors. Obtained multiple temporary restraining orders and temporary injunctions. Coordinated extensive forensics discovery of fact witnesses and experts.
Defended energy company in an employment discrimination lawsuit. Case dismissed on summary judgment.
Defended numerous additional employment, business, and personal injury lawsuits across the United States, handling discovery, depositions, and pre-trial motion practice.
